Phishing, account takeover and identity fraud are no longer isolated issues at the edge of digital banking. They now cut across the full customer journey, from onboarding and login to servicing and profile management.

At the same time, many banks are trying to respond with fragmented controls, layered onto already complex estates and split across teams with different priorities. Fraud teams tend to focus on transaction and payment risk. Digital teams tend to focus on authentication and customer experience. Identity fraud often sits awkwardly in the middle. That makes this a good moment to step back and ask whether current approaches are still fit for purpose.
