Transforming the Bank into a Self-Steering Organisation
Banks are known as trusted organisations for people to keep their money. This is based on a long history but also a lot of compliance limitations, control mechanisms and top-down management.
What would happen if a bank became a self-steering organisation? How does it affect productivity and creativity? Are there any limits?
Klaas Ariaans, today Managing Director Consumer Clients at ABN AMRO Bank N.V. started to experiment with the concepts of a self-steering organisation 4 years ago and he wrote a book about it: “Momentum - Van Heldenreis naar Helende reis voor duurzame organisatieontwikkeling”.
We invite him to share his experiences, in English, to help us understand where the boundaries of this concept are, which challenges he faces in implementing it and, more importantly, what the concrete results were of what started as an experiment in the branch network.
